Gorilla Mill: Beast of the Shop
When it comes to tooling, Gorilla Mill is a different animal.
The Wisconsin-based manufacturer makes “insanely tough weapons of mass production” —mills and drills with a reputation for ruggedness and strength. Gorilla Mill brings performance with attitude to the shop floor. It’s the trusted brand for machinists who work and play with passion.
Brutishly hard GDX-59 coating
Why do Gorilla Mill products stand out in the tool kingdom? One reason is their revolutionary nanocomposite PVD coating process made possible by LARC (Lateral Rotating Cathodes). Nanocomposite coatings are proven to beat conventional coatings by a significant margin. The performance and hardness of this coating, called GMS2, stem from the nanocomposite coating’s unique honeycomb-like structure. It provides superior high heat resistance and is exceptionally hard yet flexible.
Another reason is the patented variable flute and index design which reduces chatter and vibration. Gorilla Mill products are ideal for aggressive machining applications in all materials including stainless, inconel, titanium, tool steels and hardened materials. They’re produced with the highest Transverse Rupture Strength (TRS) nano-grain carbide substrate available and can be resharpened.
The Gorilla Mill menagerie available from BlackHawk Industrial includes the following models in assorted shank diameters and lengths:
4-Flute Standard Gorilla Drill
A general-purpose high performance and high penetration solid carbide drill capable of machining a vast range of work materials. Gorilla Drills are suitable for high efficiency precision machining at speeds up to 50% faster than standard carbide drills. They are edge-prepped for maximum tool life and SFM. Gorilla Drills feature a GDX-59 coating for increased performance, hardness and tool life in drilling applications.
7-Flute Baboon and 5-Flute Phenom
Based on the original 5 flute Gorilla Mill, Baboon and Phenom are designed for high temp alloys and feature geometric enhancements that make them uniquely suited for difficult-to-machine materials including: inconel, waspaloy, hastelloy, rene, stellite, 17-4 SS, 15-5 SS, 13-8 SS and titanium. They are offered in special diameters, lengths and can be resharpened. Baboon and Phenom are coated with GMS² revolutionary, newly formulated, PVD coating process.
Similar to Baboon and Phenom but based off the original 4-flute Gorilla Mill. The Yeti is built tough for heavy roughing in all materials, especially in high-temperature alloys. Its GMS2 coating and geometric enhancements allow for work on difficult-to-machine materials.
These center-cutting mills deliver extremely high removal rates while maintaining a superb finish. They are recommended for aggressive machining applications in all materials including, stainless, inconel, titanium, tool steels and hardened materials.
